Relight the Lighthouse at the End of The World (on Staten Island) - March 2019

In March 2018, for the 20th anniversary of the Lighthouse of the End of The World, we went back to Staten Island to see the Lighthouse.

What an emotion ! What a joy !

However, if the structure is still perfect, it appears that the beam is not working anymore. The electronic parts, batteries and solar panels are unserviceable.

That's why we decided to look after our "baby" and help Argentina repair the lighting system.

Since we came back to France, we didn't stop gathering the funding (56.000€) and set up the expedition to relight the Lighthouse in March 2019.

The expedition will consist in the conveyance to the site of the team and the whole new equipments : LED signal lantern, solar modules, regulator and electric accessories, as well as all the set of tools necessary for the mounting operations.

It will also be a great occasion to thank the Argentinian army for its availability during the different interventions, often precarious due to exceptional weather conditions, setting up a memorial support that consist of a wooden wall of approximately 2.00m x 3.00m.

Rendez-vous aux Phares - Big celebration of the 20 years of both Lighthouses at the End of the World  in 2020

Built in 2000, the Lighthouse out of Les Minimes harbor has become a must see of La Rochelle maritime landscape. It is one of the "symbol edifice", emblem of the city, as well as the two towers marking the entrance of the old harbor.

This Lighthouse is the exact replica of the Lighthouse at the End Of the World built on the other side of the Atlantic, that on Staten island in Argentina, the fruits of an incredible human, technical, diplomatic and logistical adventure!   

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, we want to bring light again on this heritage throught the project « Rendez-vous aux Phares ».

This will be the festive outcome of actions initiated well in advance, with various audiences, developed through the 28 districts of La Rochelle association of metropolitan areas (CDA), following a coherent programm, built around the central notion of light, in every sense of the word.

During this moment of discovery and sharing, open to all, the public will alternately be a spectator or an actor.

« Rendez-vous aux Phares » will be built in partnership on the artistic, financial and technical plans.

« Rendez-vous aux Phares » will involve the inhabitants of the whole La Rochelle metropolitan area in a living and joyfull celebration of this symbol of openness of the city toward the world.

To strengthen the ties between the two Lighthouses at the End Of the World, on each side of the ocean, will give us a great occasion to bump into others.
